Farmers Support

The African Migration and Governance Institute collaborated with Grow Green Ghana Limited to support women farmers in the Koluedor Electoral Area of the Ada West District with two litres of Profert liquid fertiliser. The project was part of AMGI’s Covid-19 support to enable women farmers to increase their yields and improve soil quality of their farms.

Over 500 women in the electoral area benefited from the initiative. AMGI encouraged the beneficiaries to start a cooperative at the end of the farming season by contributing 10% of the cost of the fertilisers to enable them build a seed money from which they can borrow from their own sources at lesser interest rate.

AMGI subsequently worked with some of the farmers, teaching them how to apply liquid fertilisers as well as the right time for their application. Despite working as farmers for many years, many farmers are not familiar with the use of liquid fertilisers, despite its potential to increase nutrients available to the crops.
